Simon Fraser University
Burnaby - Canada
Simon Fraser University is a public research university located in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The university is regarded as one of the best Canadian universities over many years, having been ranked multiple times as the top comprehensive university in Canada since 1991 in the annual Canadian university rankings published by Maclean’s magazine. It was also ranked by the Higher Education Strategy Associates as sixth nationally in science and engineering, and tenth in social sciences and humanities. In 2006, Infosource, a leading company in assessing research intelligence in Canada, ranked Simon Fraser University first among comprehensive universities in Canada in terms of research publication intensity. Simon Fraser University believes that students are not merely passive listeners who are taught and then graduated, but rather active partners in learning, discovery, and community engagement. In addition to developing critical thinking and research skills, the university helps students gain practical experience, enhance social skills, and build mutual understanding, not only to prepare them for employment, but also to equip them for life. The university consists of three campuses located in Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver, with easy and affordable public transportation connecting them. The main campus is situated on top of Burnaby Mountain at an elevation of 365 meters and overlooks the Burrard Inlet to the north. This campus houses all the university’s main administrative offices, as well as two sports complexes that include an international-size swimming pool. It also features a production theater, a museum of archaeology and ethnology, and three art galleries.
