The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is one of the five institutions within the University of Massachusetts system and the largest university in the Merrimack Valley region. Formerly known as the University of Lowell, the institution was established in its current form in 1975 through the merger of Lowell Technological Institute and Lowell State College.
