University of South Carolina
Colombia - United States of America
The University of South Carolina (USC) is a coeducational research university located in Columbia, South Carolina, United States, and operates seven satellite campuses. Originally established by the state of South Carolina, also known as the Palmetto State, as South Carolina College, the institution was founded as part of an effort to unite South Carolinians in the aftermath of the American Revolution. Today, USC is one of 62 public and 32 private research institutions in the country and is one of only two universities in South Carolina classified as having “very high research activity.” With students representing more than 100 nationalities and all 50 U.S. states, the University of South Carolina is a member of the SEC Academic Consortium. Due to the generally warm climate of the Palmetto State throughout most of the year, students enjoy a wide range of activities alongside their academic commitments. While the city of Columbia is rich in history, it also offers numerous theaters and museums located in the downtown area. Beyond these attractions, Palmetto Beach serves as a popular destination for students seeking relaxation away from academic responsibilities. Student-athletes at USC consistently achieve impressive results both academically and athletically, competing at the highest level within the challenging Southeastern Conference. As Gamecocks, the university community takes pride in a strong spirit that reflects excellence on the field and in the classroom.
